My signature patterns

I manage to create one new pattern a year. While there are always about 150 ideas swirling around, eventually one theme matures—one I’ve already gathered in my sketchbooks. Suddenly, I see exactly how it should look in terms of color and the overall feeling the fabric will evoke. That is the moment we create.
One such moment led to 'Autumn Flower' (Podzimní květ), where Luigi (graphics) and I composed bouquets from beautiful autumn leaves and treasures. The richness of deep autumnal colors never leaves me at peace, much like the wildflowers surrounding golden fields in midsummer. It is an almost frantic state where my mind stands above it all, experiencing the beauty of what I see in its full intensity.
My natural reaction is to reach for a pencil and sketchbook to capture at least fragments—the most gracefully bent leaves that sometimes vanish into the light. They flicker like life itself, our brief moment in time. They are there, and then they are gone; not for a second do they look exactly the same.
This is also how the previous pattern, 'Meadow' (Louka), came to be—fluttering flowers that line field paths and sway across the meadows of our landscape. My very first pattern, 'Slovácko', was born from a series of illustrations I created in Moravia over a longer period, mostly during traditional folk festivals. Our original patterns also include 'Little Flower' (kvíteček), cobalt stripes, and large checks—patterns that naturally belong on the canvas of folk costumes and traditional dwellings.
