How Patterns are Born: A Story of Collaboration with Matějovský
Last year, Matějovský Bedding approached me with a vision for a collection of original patterns—one where each design would be unique, yet all part of a single family. When a commission like this comes in, a wave of joy washes over me, and a billion possibilities flash through my mind. I wait with excitement to find the four clear silhouettes among them. It’s an adventure I share with the client; as we talk more about their ideas, my imagination reacts to every spark—be it a

My signature patterns
I manage to create one new pattern a year. While there are always about 150 ideas swirling around, eventually one theme matures—one I’ve already gathered in my sketchbooks. Suddenly, I see exactly how it should look in terms of color and the overall feeling the fabric will evoke. That is the moment we create. One such moment led to 'Autumn Flower' (Podzimní květ) , where Luigi (graphics) and I composed bouquets from beautiful autumn leaves and treasures. The richness of deep

"The Horses" are our signature design for 2022
I manage to release one new pattern per year. There are always about 150 ideas, but eventually, one theme matures from the sketches I’ve collected. Suddenly, I can see the colors and the overall feeling of the fabric in my mind. That is the moment we start creating. Last year it was "Autumn Flower," where Luigi (the graphic designer) and I composed bouquets from beautiful autumn leaves and treats. The beauty of rich, darker autumn colors resonates deeply with me, as do the wi

BLUEPRINT (MODROTISK)
TECHNIQUE Blueprint (Modrotisk) is a traditional textile printing technique, most commonly involving the negative printing of a so-called "reserve" onto white linen or cotton canvas. Imagine the reserve as a thick, pale blue liquid—a mixture of gum arabic and "secret ingredients." Every dyer strictly guards their unique family recipe for this reserve. The reserve is applied to the fabric using a hand-block mold that carries the desired pattern. Once printed, the white fabric—

Sustainability
WHAT IT MEANS Today, this very popular word and topic appears in various contexts. Some may feel it is overused, commercially exploited, or even that it requires a strict checklist of characteristics to claim a product is sustainable. The truth is that this label is not subject to any mandatory certification, and the list of rules or prerequisites is not limited. When a manufacturer states WHY they label their product as sustainable, they contribute to spreading awareness abo

Pattern Meadow
The meadow flowers that line the country paths create the most beautiful images, full of delicate colors and textures. In the middle of July, when everything around turns to gold, I cannot get enough of looking at them. I love to go and sit among them, listening to the rustling wind and sketching individual blossoms in my sketchbook with a pencil. From some of these drawings, Luigi assembled the delicate Meadow pattern. It is your most favorite. You can find it on our fabrics

Pattern Autumn Flower
Autumn is my favorite season. I quiet down outwardly, my attention turns inward, but the passion for beautiful, deep colors combined with the gray sky and the scent of a fireplace, rain, soups, and tea—it is all such a wild happiness. From sketches of leaves, blueberries, and blackberries, Luigi assembled a striking pattern, which we are gradually introducing in various color versions that connect you with the nature outside your window.

Pattern Tiny Flower
A domestic manufacturer prepared this pattern of tiny blossoms in light gray for us on organic cotton. Whether they are forget-me-nots, baby's breath, or any other tiny flowers, they possess a level of tenderness that our first organic fabric deserved to have in its collection.

Pattern Slovácko
I draw my native Slovácko most of all. I stand in the middle of the action and try to capture it: the dance, the music, the costumes, the horses. Our first original pattern was born from these sketches—I believe it was in 2016.

Pattern Horses

Pattern Rose
Roses lined the paths of our village, adorned the front gardens of houses, and they still decorate my grandmother’s garden to this day. She always tied a small bouquet from them for our birthdays and name days. For me, they are a classic among flowers in the truest sense of the word. At the same time, it is a flower of so many magnificent varieties that we can discover and admire them over and over again. Their beauty is so elegant; the lines created by their firm stems, the

The Czech Olympic Collection by Zuzana Osako: Tokyo 2021
The Czech Olympic collection by designer and illustrator Zuzana Osako, presented at the Tokyo opening ceremony, is built upon the convergence, exploration, and connection of Czech and Japanese cultures. The fundamental technological element in this process became modrotisk (blueprint)—a technique of decorating fabrics with negative printing and indigo dyeing originally from East Asia. While modrotisk gained popularity in Japan during the 17th and 18th centuries, it reached

Ethical cruelty-free approach

A GLIMPSE BEHIND THE SCENES: Building a business with no experience, three small children, and two professions
Starting a business out of nowhere with three children and a large house isn’t as far-fetched as it might seem. If you have children, you already have excellent training in organization. In a large house, it’s not that difficult to set up an office instead of paying rent elsewhere. And having two other professions at the same time is actually a benefit; it eases the financial pressure and allows you to self-fund your new venture. The most critical resource you’ll need to mana
